A Simple Care Routine for Your Lingerie

Lace, elastic, moulded cups and delicate trims do not all need the same treatment. The best starting point for any care routine is the instruction label on that particular garment. Keep it in mind when choosing a wash method, detergent and drying temperature.

Check before washing

Separate items according to their care instructions and colours. Fasten hooks so they are less likely to catch on other garments. A care label that allows machine washing may still specify a gentle cycle or a low temperature; follow those details instead of adding lingerie to your usual load automatically.

Handle delicate pieces gently

For garments labelled for hand washing, use the recommended water temperature and a suitable detergent. Avoid vigorous scrubbing or twisting delicate fabric. If machine washing is permitted, a mesh lingerie bag can help keep straps and hooks contained. A bag does not make a hand-wash-only item suitable for the machine.

Give drying some space

Follow the drying instructions, including any restrictions on tumble drying or direct heat. Gently reshape cups where appropriate and allow pieces to dry fully before putting them away. Avoid forcing a structured cup inside out to squeeze it into a drawer.

Make your drawer easy to use

Leave enough room to lift out one bra without pulling at its neighbours. A quick check while putting things away is also a useful moment to spot loose stitching, a damaged hook or fabric that needs attention. Small, consistent habits make caring for your favourites easier to fit into the week.
